General Requirements
The following requirements are necessary for the installation of the HCNA LDS:
- The pipeline sections to be tested should be fully isolated. This is typically done by closing tight valves (e.g. Double-Block-and-Bleed-Valves), in order to avoid leak indications caused by leaking valves. Please note that the HCNA LDS does work with suspect valves or other leaks and these leaks are detected during testing. The benefit of the HCNA LDS is its ability to determine the tightness of the piping system being tested, but it will also indicate if the components of the system are not tight.
- Air inclusions should be minimized by regular ventilation in order to achieve maximum accuracy. Significant air in the system can impact leak detection accuracy for any pressure based system.
- All fuel system components should be operating properly.
HCNA LDS Permanent
To conduct leak detection or tightness monitoring tests with a permanently installed system, HCNA LDS requires the following equipment:
- Pressure transmitters (for each pipeline section one pressure transmitter is required).
- Data transmitting system between the pressure sensor and the computer (fiber optics, modem, standard cables, etc.).
- Isolation valves to establish pipeline test sections.
- Pressurization/Depressurization to achieve the test pressures in the pipeline test sections (usually existing main pump or small jockey pump).
- Computer and peripheral equipment for evaluation and documentation of test results.
The test procedure is the same as for the other HCNA LDS options.
HCNA LDS Mobile Trailer

To conduct leak detection or tightness monitoring tests, the HCNA LDS Trailer unit requires the following equipment:
- Isolation valves to establish pipeline test sections.
- Connection point for each section to be tested (e.g. high point vent).
- Fuel source to pressurize/depressurize test section (normally from adjoining line section, owner´s fuel truck, or from the optional HCNA Trailer mounted tank).
- All other equipment required is provided with the Trailer. The test procedure is the same as for the other HCNA-LDS options.
HCNA LDS Suitcase
To conduct leak detection or tightness monitoring tests, the HCNA LDS Suitcase requires the following equipment:
- T-Connection for Pressure Transmitter and leak simulation (e.g., high point vent) Optional: permanent installed pressure transmitter (for each pipeline section one pressure transmitter is required)
- Isolation valves to establish pipeline test sections.
- Pressurization/Depressurization capability.
The pressure transmitter on the test rig is hooked up to the computer with printer.
Pressurization/Depressurization takes place by means of HCNA portable hand pump or on-site equipment (existing pumps or truck). Necessary valve movements take place either automatically or manually. Subsequent test procedures are the same as for the all other HCNA LDS options.
